Northern Tools and Pressure Washer Burner Upgrade To Low Flow Tools

Self install kit includes one each of the parts below:
Allows for use with low flow tools without having to change the flow switch or mess with the electronics or wiring.
Does not add to your fuel cost as you are only moving cold water and not hot water.

CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU ADJUST THE NEEDLE VALVE SO THAT THE BURNER ONLY LIGHTS WHEN YOU ARE TRIGGERING THE WAND!
IT IS NOT OK TO LET THE BURNER LIGHT WHEN NO WATER IS FLOWING THROUGH THE COILS.
PLEASE NOTE IT IS ILLEGAL TO LET WATER RUN INTO THE STREET IN SOME CITIES.  YOU MIGHT BE REQUIRED TO PUSH THE WATER BACK TO A FRESH TANK, WASTE TANK, OR AUTO PUMP OUT HOSE, CUSTOMER LAWN OR SEWER CLEAN-OUT. 

	Pressure Washer Hose 4000psi 3/8" X 10 Ft Double Wire with 3/8" Mip ends Step 2:  Install the 10 ft hose to the 3/8" Street Tee to the exposed side port
	Metering Needle Valve, Plastic Handle 8.904-361.0 3500psi 195 degrees Step 4:  Install this needle valve to the end of the reducing brass adapter. Please note this is a panel mountable valve, so you can position it in a convenient 'easy to reach' location. Adjust to make sure the burner lights only when water flows through the coils and not when you set the cleaning tool down!

Please note this is not the only way to do this.
You can just change out the flow switch to a low flow switch, you change out the needle valve to a pre-set flow control with a flow control disk, you can use a ball valve.  Please note the ball valves are super hard to adjust and maintain an exact flow rate.

Or will the thermostat help control that?

Answer:  No, you set the needle valve to flow all the time but the burner only lights when you squeeze the trigger on the wand.  This is the reason for the needle valve.  It is an exact and precise adjustment.  The burner should only kick on and off as you use the cleaning tools and does NOT burn in standby mode.   If the burner lights in standby mode the flow rate is too high and this is super dangerous!  The thermostat is a secondary control device but has nothing to do with flow control, only water temperature.  The idea here is if I trickle a 1/2 a gallon a minute and the cleaning tool uses 1/2 gallon a minute the burner only lights when I squeeze the trigger for my cleaning stroke because the combined use is now over 1 gallon per minute.   Please note the default flow switch is set to one gallon per minute so you combined tool use and water trickle use just need to combine over that number.  As you change pressures and tools and readjustment might be necessary.

Sapphire Scientific: Hoss 700 flow control disk .048  Preset water flow to the same flow as a 3.5 nozzle.  This will make the above burner light all the time and is only show here and example of another flow control device and should not be used for pressure washer burner control!
